Letter from a sex den

Castro Confidential telexes its far-flung correspondents for Social Notes from All Over. Today, a friend writes about his visit last night at San Francisco's top-secret "14th Street House."

I stopped by "Communion," the occasional part-fairy, part-hunky happening at the celebrated venue for all manner of M2M erotic gatherings. Last night, hundreds of guys wandered around the multi-level fun house, with towels tucked around their waists. Many bellies flopped over. Men munched sandwich wraps, strawberries and barbecued potato chips in the kitchen, others jerked off watching leather-ish porn in the little den. Smokers (of tobacco) gathered and, well, smoked tobacco on a little patio outdoors.

Up the back deck to the second floor was the "massage room" -- two or three dozen guys sprawled next to, around and on top of each other, naked or slightly toweled, kissing, some sucking, a fuck here and there, in pairs or maybe threes or mores. I smoked some pot and ate two pieces of the incredible cherry-chocolate bread from Noe Valley Bakery; I recognized it right away. Great pistachio nuts, too.

I surveyed the crowd, chatted with this one and that, then checked out the basement/sex dungeon -- a big, rambling space with various rooms and compartments, slings, little nooks and crannies, gauzy hanging things, some beds, an S&M corner, a doc's examining table, etc. I like to observe in that kind of space. But I'm a traditionalist in this kind of thing: I prefer my anonymous sex one-on-one and in private.

What's not to look forward to when 50 men (hi, Bruce!) pleasure us with their mouths? San Francisco's Golden Gate Men's Chorus celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special performance next Saturday at the lovely Regency Center. Remembering the music I miss

Sparky and I might hit one of San Francisco's big circuity events this weekend. There's Industry on Saturday night. More likely: Club Papi on Sunday, where dance hit queen Rozalla is performing, fresh off her appearance tonight at Gay Day at Great America. I've just added three of Rozalla's tracks to the Castro Tunes jukebox to your right -- including gay anthem Everybody's Free. (She's appearing in the Flicks section on the right, too, through the weekend.) Sparky and I probably would go dancing more often if DJs played more vocals like Rozalla's. But too often, the music is programmed for guys on X. And the good stuff seems in short supply.

Sisters make a big bootie call

What's more incongruous than gay men dressed as nuns? How about gay men dressed as nuns -- dressed as pirates? The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and their shipmates-for-a-day gathered at Cafe Flore at noon today for Bootie & Bling: A Castro Treasure Hunt.

A Kabuki visit, and the age-old question

Will there be anyone cute there? The answer last night was, yes. He was the guy with a dragonfly tattoo spreading across his muscular upper back -- something I noticed when I first saw him at Gold's on Market Street, back when I worked out there.

I like the Kabuki. There's a sexual tension on men-only Saturdays that's unlike anything in a regular bathhouse. I suppose that's because -- officially, even on Saturdays, when it's almost all-gay -- the place isn't about sex. It's supposed to be about contemplation, finding a quiet space. And it certainly has all that. But in that dim lighting, surrounded by half-naked, dripping-wet men, it's hard to stay unfocused. When: men only on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Millinery mayhem descends on Louisville today for the annual Kentucky Derby. As a former resident, trust me: The Run for the Roses is a week-long excuse for the city's very friendly gay boys (hi, Craig!) to drink, schmooze and wear crazy hats. Of course, that's when they're not rubbernecking at the C-list celebs (who knew Raquel Welch was even alive?) who wash over the Barnstable Brown party hosted by two very aged former Doublemint Twins models. What: 133rd Kentucky Derby. Who: Queen Elizabeth II and her no-good philandering husband are the marquee guests.
