Love that skirt! Where'd you get it?

Super-creepy Gen. Peter Pace, who likes to play dress-up around men wearing plaid skirts (above), agrees there are "wonderful Americans who happen to be homosexual serving in the military.'' But! They're still immoral, he told a U.S. Senate hearing today. Pace, thank gawd, retires next week as head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Why we love the other Clinton -- but hate hats

The Advocate asks why so many gays support Hillary Clinton, considering that "her husband let us down, she won’t support marriage equality" -- and she's not, in answer to the magazine's question -- a lesbian. Plus, men don't men wear hats (and I'm not talking caps) for a host of reasons: from John F. Kennedy to our insistence on shunning conformity in the 1960s. Hat designer Orlando Palacios (above) for Worth & Worth in New York, says that's nuts. "A hat will change your whole look," he tells the New York Times today. "It says you’re daring. It pulls people in." [Photo: Gabriele Stabile, NYT]

Arnie veto expected; plus, a new office sweet

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to veto the latest same-sex marriage bill approved by the state legislature, the San Francisco Chronicle says today. Those naughty boys at business-attire-themed porn producer Men at Play have released their newest waggishly-titled concoction, KamaSuitra Gold (left). Smack down! Chris Crocker, the over-the-top, 19-year-old way-fey Britney Spears fan, goes after Fox News in a new YouTube video: "Mention me again and there will be a problem, Fox News." Crocker's original video screed attacking Spears' critics continues to climb YouTube's charts. Meanwhile, oldie and definitely moldy disco group The Village People plans to sue YouTube over a video featuring Hitler and a coterie of prominent Nazis singing YMCA.

RuPaul for president!

That was the waggish retort by Peet's Coffee & Tea employees moments ago as supporters marched by the Montgomery Street store in San Francisco's financial district, demanding that we elect super-fringe Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Jobs aren't us; Gaynor gains, Bankhead redux

Yikes! We're all gonna lose our jobs because the economy's going into a total molto-meltdown. (Or not!) Answer: A gazillion. Question: "Just how many closeted, self-hating, violently repressed 'I-am-not-gay' totally gay hypocrites are there in the Republican Party?" Disco diva Gloria "I Will Survive" Gaynor (left) turns 58 today; more big birthdays here. Plus, Out There's dish, yesterday, on Tallulah Bankhead reminds me of a story from playwright Lillian Hellman's memoirs, Pentimento. While she was being considering for the role of Regina in the stage version of Hellman's The Little Foxes, Bankhead insisted on being interviewed in bed, with her husband, John Emery, by her side. "'Wait a minute, darling, just wait a minute. I have something to show you,''' Hellman quotes Bankhead saying. "She threw aside the sheets, pointed down at the naked, miserable Emery and said, 'Just tell me, darling, if you've ever seen a prick that big.''' Meanwhile, in other big-cock news, we have this debate. Mangia!

I told you Andrew Sullivan's hubbie is tall

The quasi-conservative blogger's new husbear, Aaron Tone, is kinda ginormous, no? [Photo: Michael Stuetz via Andrew Sullivan]

'Purple hairs' called out; Craig's waffling anew

San Francisco magazine dishes a bit of dirt on the new (apparently very straight) chief of one of the city's gayest groups: the San Francisco Opera. "Ah, the things we do for love, the things we do for money," the frank-talking David Gockley (left) tells the magazine. (Confidential to Dede Wilsey: How do you like being lumped in with the "purple-hair" set?) In an about-face, conservative Idaho Sen. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig hinted today that he won't finish out his term after all, following his guilty plea in a sex-sting operation. Plus, Jo Anne Worley of Laugh-In fame turns 70 today; more big birthdays here.

Craig's return? Plus, cops on Craigslist!

Having not humiliated his family enough, Republican Idaho Sen. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig (above, in booking photo) is now reconsidering plans to resign over his guilty plea after a Minneapolis airport bathroom sex-sting operation. Oh, my! Prostitutes are peddling themselves on Craiglist, according to the New York Times; the story makes no mention of men offering themselves for fun, even though I can find all these ads in the Castro alone. More about the blogger who targeted Craig

The Washington Post profiles Mike Rogers (left), who outed Larry "Wide Stance" Craig months before the conservative Idaho senator's arrest by an undercover cop in a sex-sting operation at the Minneapolis airport. Turns out, we haven't heard the last of Rogers: "In the coming months," the Post says today, "he plans to post the names of 'a few more' closeted Congress members on his blog, he says, all of them Republicans." Rogers, 43, who came out in his early 20s, tells the newspaper: "I write about closeted people whose records are anti-gay. If you're a closeted Democrat or Republican and you don't bash gays or vote against gay rights to gain political points, I won't out you." [Photo: Marvin Joseph, WP]

A Brooklyn fireman with a really huge hose

I may be the last gay man on the planet to find this story, so forgive me. First, the NSFW background: I watched a very sexy video last year of a guy showing off his huge cock to a group of women, videotaping him with his knowledge for a tape that wound up in the Guys Gone Wild series. But the story about Michael Biserta got better earlier this month.

It turns out that Biserta is a 22-year-old Brooklyn fireman who's the cover boy (above) for the 2008 version of the New York Fire Department's super-popular annual shirtless hunk charity calendar. Now, citing bad press over over Biserta's tape, the department is banning all future calendars. Such bad sports!

Will the real Sullivan husbear step forward?

I was surprised that blogger Andrew Sullivan's wedding last week didn't make Sunday's New York Times, given the high-profile position he's taken on gay marriage. Meanwhile, I may have sussed out a photo or two of Sullivan's elusive but very hairy hubbie, the artist and music re-mixer Aaron Tone. I'm confident that's him, above, with their two beagles; I'm less confident about the photo, left, presumably pre-beard. In any case, they've lived together two or three years. The vitals: Sullivan's 44; Tone, 31. Still no word on exactly how tall Tone stands; he looked about 6'3'' when I saw him recently. A quick glance at his websites here and here, though, shows he's kind of a big ol' poofter: He loves, loves, loves Madonna! Plenty of gossip on the newlyweds here. Some of it might even be true! Plus, don't miss the controversy over whether a Tone painting shows Sullivan's butt. Still, maybe I'm just sentimental, but I liked what Sullivan wrote about his pre-wedding jitters.

There'll always be naughty boys in France

If I only knew French better, I could maybe understand the serial killer theme behind the new issue of gay-boy glossy, Pref magazine, now heading to global newsstands. Maybe the point is: We love bad boys. In the era of Idaho Sen. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig, these are my kind of mug shots!

Briefs: recalling Booth; toilet cruising 101

Shirley Booth, Oscar's Best Actress in 1953 for playing the wife of an alcoholic chiropractor in Come Back, Little Sheba, was born 109 years ago today; she died in 1992. The poignantly five-hankie Sheba is on the required viewing list at Faggot Finishing School. (Booth was best known for starring in the TV series Hazel.) Plus, ABC leverages the Sen. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig scandal by offering a toe-tapping primer on picking up men in toilets. So academic! "Over time," people familiar with cruising told ABCNEWS.com, "gay men began using a codified system of signals to indicate to others that they were interested in sex."

Drudging up dirt on Web's mysterious blogger

New York magazine profiles uber-blogger Matt Drudge (left), he of the famous fedora. Drudge, 4o, comes off as rich -- two homes in Miami -- really paranoid, and probably gay. "Conservative-turned-liberal David Brock, who is gay, described Drudge coming on to him sexually in 1997, including e-mailing Brock the suggestion that they be 'fuck buddies,''' New York says. "Michaelangelo Signorile, a journalist who has broken down many a closet door, calls Drudge 'a nasty faggot.'" [Photo: NNDB]

Andrew Sullivan's soon-to-be husbear

I'm not sure who the conservative-ish writer is marrying this week. But if it's the stunningly tall ("altitudinous," Gawker says), gorgeous and molto-hairy guy I saw Sullivan clambering all over at P-town's Wired Puppy earlier this month, all I can say is: Mazltov! Hang on to this one; he's a keeper.

Iglesias condoms; Helmsley's rich pooch

As Idaho Sen. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig would say: Jiminy God! Pop singer Enrique Iglesias (left) has reportedly been offered a $1 million gig modeling condoms for U.S. maker LifeStyles Condoms. He's been joking (right? He is joking isn't he?) that he has a very small cock, making it hard to find rubbers that fit. (Note: Regular Castro Confidential readers know I only use Trojan Magnums over my big willie.) Now-dead Leona "only the little people pay taxes" Helmsley left $12 million in her will to her white Maltese, named Trouble. And speaking of the senior senator from Idaho: He's now denied at a nationally televised press conference that he's gay. But did he deny he sucks dick a lot? And speaking of I-da-ho: Under these circumstances, could Craig represent a state with a more unfortunate-sounding name?

Craig's out; can McConnell be far behind?

I'll be writing more about anti-gay Idaho Sen. Larry Craig (top left) in the now-unfolding scandal over his arrest for soliciting an undercover cop in a men's toilet at a Minneapolis airport. For now, though, let's just say that in the five years I lived in Idaho, Craig's being a big ol' gay boy was one of the state's worst-kept secrets. Kind of like all the stories I heard during my three years in Kentucky about equally repugnant and even more powerful Sen. Mitch McConnell (lower left). After all, he's the KY conservative, eh?

Gonzalez says he won't challenge Newsom

Former San Francisco supervisor Matt Gonzalez was progressives' last hope for a big-name candidate to challenge Mayor Gavin Newsom in his re-election bid this fall. Polling showed voters seemed complacent about problems the city faces, Gonzalez told the San Francisco Chronicle today, and don't hold Newsom accountable -- two factors that would be nearly impossible for a challenger to overcome. Gonzalez is a gay-friendly guy. But show me a politician in San Francisco who isn't on the most important stuff -- which, in my case, ought to mean making Muni run better. Disney bans smoking in office fetish films

Hunky bosses will now have to use other means to terrorize and sexually molest subordinates now that the Walt Disney Co. has inexplicably crumpled under pressure from anti-smoking zealots and nixed cigars, cigarettes, pipes and chewing tobacco from its movies. But worry not: We've always got Cigar Torture! [Photo: Men At Play]

'Tube' poster ban; Moore: nude, yes; gay, no

London subway authorities rejected a Gay Times poster celebrating the 40th anniversary of legalized gayness, saying the ad (above, left) meant for Tube stations was too racy; officials ultimately OK'd a tamer version (right). And, very sexy Criminal Minds actor Shemar Moore (left) says he isn't gay after photos surfaced of the Oakland, Calif., native on a nude gay beach in Hawaii with two "girlfriends."
