11:25 a.m.: Pink Saturday

The scene at Castro and Market streets this morning, hours before thousands of visitors pour into the 'hood for the annual Pink Saturday street party tonight. As many as one million people will mass along fewer than two miles of Market Street tomorrow for the weekend's signature gay-a-palooza happening, the Gay Pride Parade.

The parade is one of California's biggest public events, so it draws tons of media attention.

4:50 p.m.: Castro Street

These two -- Jack Russells? -- waited anxiously for their owner outside the Cove Cafe this afternoon. I've seen them before. They often attract an amused crowd because the brown one uses his left hind leg to hold the black one close.

Signs of change

Workers remove the Clear Channel billboard this morning at 16th and Market streets that featured a Gay.com ad above Baghdad Cafe for as long as I can remember. I suspect a new one will be installed well before next month's gay pride events.

1:54 p.m.: Market near 16th

Jaffray is a shy Miniature Bull Terrier I met Saturday near The Gym SF. I didn't get her handsome master's name, unfortunately.

2:15 p.m: Cafe Flore

I ate a way-late brunch: Eggs Benedict at Cafe Flore, $8.95. Where: 2298 Market St. When: Sunday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to midnight.

10:25 a.m.: Making plans

Post-brunch: Squat & Gobble, 3600 16th St.

4:32 p.m.: Church and 17th
