Gonzalez says he won't challenge Newsom

Former San Francisco supervisor Matt Gonzalez was progressives' last hope for a big-name candidate to challenge Mayor Gavin Newsom in his re-election bid this fall. Polling showed voters seemed complacent about problems the city faces, Gonzalez told the San Francisco Chronicle today, and don't hold Newsom accountable -- two factors that would be nearly impossible for a challenger to overcome. Gonzalez is a gay-friendly guy. But show me a politician in San Francisco who isn't on the most important stuff -- which, in my case, ought to mean making Muni run better.
