Reluctantly, Pee-Wee returns to spotlight

Sparky will be the first to say I'm not a morning guy. So, it took something as hilarious as Pee Wee's Playhouse to get me out of bed Saturday mornings, when that show ran on TV from 1986-91. Now, comes the New York Times, with a new story today about the actor behind the series, Paul Reubens. He's been more or less in hiding since his arrest years ago for indecent exposure.

The NYT writes: "In an interview at his publicist’s office in West Hollywood earlier this month, Mr. Reubens, 54, was by turns candid, wary and unnervingly seductive. At a glance, he appears to have traded in his antic persona for a worldlier, more subdued model — his girth expanded, his hair gray-flecked, his adenoidal whine modulated to a grainy croon."

Playhouse was amazingly gay for Saturday mornings, when you consider that hour is TV-viewing time for kiddies. You can't get much more gay than the Del Rubio Triplets, here singing Winter Wonderland from a Pee Wee Christmas special:
