Everett's rise to stardom from rent boy

British actor and novelist Rupert Everett got his break in the 1982 West End production of Another Country, playing a gay schoolboy opposite Kenneth Branagh. A film version followed in 1984 with Colin Firth, a movie I've enjoyed several times. But success didn't come immediately. Everett, who turns 48 today, worked as a rent boy after dropping out of school at 15. He and his older brother are bisexual, according to his Wiki bio. Everett this year published his autobiography, Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins, revealing he'd had a six-year romp with British TV news anchor Paula Yates. “I am mystified by my heterosexual affairs — but then I am mystified by most of my relationships," Everett said. More celebrity birthdays here.
