L.A. Times sportswriter: 'I am a transsexual'

Mike Penner says he's played every newsroom position in 23 years at the Los Angeles Times: Tennis writer. Angels beat reporter. Olympics writer. Essayist. Sports media critic. NFL columnist.

Now, he's found another new one, he says in a gripping confession this morning: "Today I leave for a few weeks' vacation, and when I return, I will come back in yet another incarnation. As Christine. I am a transsexual sportswriter. It has taken more than 40 years, a million tears and hundreds of hours of soul-wrenching therapy for me to work up the courage to type those words."

I know you want to see Mike's pic; so do I. But there isn't one with his essay, and I can't find one on the Web. Can anyone help?
